Sure, money does play a huge role in our daily lives but it shouldn’t become the core focus of everything you do. Allow yourself room to grow without any expectations or the pressure of making money. This is because personal development is a journey that doesn’t offer monetary gains.

The core benefits of personal development are intangible. You can get spiritual peace, enlightenment, a better understanding of yourself and also learn to live within your means. If you’re hoping to get non-tangible results, focusing on money isn’t the way to go.

Instead, focus on your growth, align your passion with your dream and the money will start to come to you. It might sound like it’s made up but this is one area that is true. But, remember that you will have to put in a lot of work now but the payoff can take years to show up. So, don’t become discouraged!

12. Overworking Yourself

Personal development issues also arise when you’ve just discovered the superhuman entrepreneurs. These are the people who claim to only need 4 to 5 hours of sleep. They are able to work from the break of dawn till late into the night.

They are so motivated that their need to work overpowers their need for sleep.

To be honest, only 1 in 10 people are truly able to do this without any negative repercussions. Even then, this is possible due to a rare genetic condition. For the rest, a minimum of 8 hours of sleep is needed.

If you’re cutting this time short, be prepared to sacrifice in other areas. A good night’s sleep is necessary for productivity as you cannot expect to work well and with focus. On the other hand, people often skip on sleep so that they can more work.

But, if you’re not getting enough sleep, you’re not just ruining your productivity at work. You are also affecting your emotional and social intelligence, your immune system and increasing the stress you experience. Overworking yourself and skipping sleep ruins the quality of your life considerably more.

So take a look at the bigger picture and put a stop to this habit.

13. Believing You Cannot Change

This is the biggest cause of personal development issues: the solid belief that one cannot change who they are. We generally believe that by the time we are adults, our mindset, our abilities and even our personalities are set in stone. Luckily this is not true.

It is ludicrous to believe that we’re bound to a personality or a characteristic which is apparently inherent in our genes. Change is a constant in our lives. If you’re willing to step out of the box, you will see that your personality and characteristics will also undergo a change.

Additionally, there’s an example of positive change in characteristics everywhere we see. Addicts can overcome their vices, criminals can be reformed into productive members of society and even introverts can turn into masters of speech. True change comes when someone actually wants to change and makes a conscious choice to do so.

But, if you already believe that you cannot change yourself, you’re locking yourself in the box. Even if you took a particular test such as Myers Briggs test to find out your qualities, don’t consider the result as final. These tests are great for evaluating certain traits you possess at a certain time but they don’t account for the change in later life.

By taking a closer look at these personal development issues, you can hopefully overcome them and work your way to a better future. Remember that you are in charge of your development and if you don’t like something, you can always change it!
